Section Classification
NEN-EN 1993-1-1 Table 5.2
The built-up section is classified according to NEN-EN 1993-1-1 Table 5.2
The following assumptions are used:
- NEN-EN 1993-1-1 Table 5.2
- The entered value for yield strength fy is taken into account
- Classification under pure compression (This is obviously the most unfavorable check)
- Classification under pure bending about the y-axis My- (compression at the top)
- Classification under pure bending about the y-axis My+ (compression at the bottom)
- No classification based on a combination of axial load and bending about the y-axis
- No section reduction is applied
- No stress correction is applied to assess section class 4 as class 3 (see NEN-EN 1993-1-1 art. 5.5.2 (9))
- Strips are automatically assessed as cantilevered flanges or as internal loaded parts
- All parts to which a stiffener (for example in the form of a strip) is welded in the middle are no longer included in section classification. These parts are assumed to no longer be susceptible to buckling. The stiffness of the stiffeners as well as the location where the stiffener is applied is not included in this assessment. In some cases, additional manual verification will be necessary.
